Sylk is an important character in the EtC mythos. Though he does not initially seem to play any vital role in the series, his story ties together a few of the main characters' and their histories. Sylk is the last of the Summoners.
Dodici, The Slaver
Silas, Nix, Peche, Kleiss
Sylk was born Silas, son of Jeremiah Derain, although he wasn't afforded a great opportunity to know his father. Jeremiah had had his children spirited away to prevent the possibility they may come to covet his throne. Silas went on to adopt the name Crosse denoting the fact he did not know his last name. He participated in the Darkstress Wars, becoming known as LePeche.
Sylk is a sordid egotistical bastard seeking immortality. He is an absentee father at best and a sociopath at worst.
Sylk has somehow retained his youthful appearance even after twenty years on Anvar. He has long grey-white hair and green eyes.
Sylk's relationship with his father is strained to the point of non-existence.
Silas from Latin means "woods" and Kepler is German for "hatter". Nix is from Latin and means "cease."
Sylk is an anagram derived of the English name Kyle (from Gaelic caol "narrow, strait") replacing the e with an s. Originally, the anagram was "Kyle X" resulting in the form Xelyk.
